If you just heard Dr. Jones say hello to you, then your audio is working fine and you should proceed to the course pages. If not, please read on.
Unfortunately there are no standards for playing audio on the Internet. The audio for our courses has been tested to work with the following:
Windows Operating System using the following web browsers:
Internet Explorer
Firefox
Google Chrome
Safari
Opera
Apple/MacIntosh Operating System:
Safari
Mobile Devices
iPhone (will not autoplay - press the play button on the audio control)
iPad (will not autoplay - press the play button on the audio control)
iTouch (will not autoplay - press the play button on the audio control)
Blackberry Torch
Droid X
Various other Android devices (it might not work with all of them).
Standard Desktop, Laptop, Notebook Computers
If your audio doesn't work, try this first:
Upgrade your browser to the lastest version. This is also always good to do just for security reasons.
If you see an audio control at the top of this page, you can see the slider bar moving (try replaying it), but don't hear anything? Try these:
Make sure other sounds work on your computer. Audio controls can be software, hardware, or both.
Is your mute button turned on?
Is the volume turned all the way down?
Do you have headphones plugged in which you aren't using?
Do you have external speakers plugged in, do they have power, are they turned on, is the volume turned up?
If you see a box with an X in it at the top of this page and don't hear anything, then your web browser is missing a media player. Try these:
If you are using Internet Explorer, look at the top or bottom of the screen and check to see if it is asking you to install an Active-X Control; this is a media player plug-in from Microsoft. If so, follow the instructions and install it; it is completely safe and should only take a few seconds to install.
Try refreshing the page if you don't see it (press the F5 key at the top of the keyboard) and look again.
Use a different web browser, such as Firefox or Google Chrome.
Call us for help if you still don't have audio.
Mobile Devices
The Apple mobile operating system does not allow us to autoplay content. You must press the play button (triangle on left side of audio control) on each slide.
If you are using an Android mobile device go to the browser settings and make sure that pliug-ins are enabled.
The audio will play on most devices, especially newer ones. Again, there are no standards for playing audio. If the audio doesn't play on your mobile device, try using a regular computer. If you do not own one, most local libraries have them.
When using a mobile device we recommend using Wi-Fi. This will speed playback time and avoid data charges.
